James Fortune’s career began on the streets of Los Angeles in 1966. A photograph of protesters atop a bus was sold to United Press International that night and appeared on front pages around the world the next morning.
A year later he entered Sunset Sound while The Doors recorded Strange Days. After serving as a U.S. Navy combat photographer in Vietnam, Fortune returned to Los Angeles and gained extraordinary access to the artists defining a generation.
What followed was a decade-long visual record of rock & roll at full voltage — onstage, backstage and in the unguarded seconds between.
