James Fortune
Fortune’s photographic career began in Los Angeles in 1966, when his image of protesters atop a bus was distributed by United Press International. In 1967 he photographed The Doors at Sunset Sound during the recording of Strange Days.
After serving as a U.S. Navy combat photographer in Vietnam, he returned to Los Angeles and documented the musicians defining the era. His subjects include Led Zeppelin, The Who, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Alice Cooper, Bob Dylan and Iggy Pop.
His photographs are valued for proximity rather than spectacle: the charged stage moment, the private room and the unguarded interval. Studio 54 Fine Art presents available works from the archive to private collectors.
